Our mission is to TEACH, PROMOTE and BUILD.
We believe that teaching life skills gives autistic people the essential tools needed to navigate the world around them. Promoting independence enables individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder learn to advocate for themselves. Building confidence in people with different abilities helps them to live their best lives. Awesome on the Spectrum Inc. works to educate the community about the many elements of autism and how the inclusion of autistic people in all aspects of life betters society as a whole.
Meet our Amazing Team!
CEO and Founder
Greetings, I’m Darla Hill and I am an autism warrior mom with a passion for helping people on the spectrum be their very best. The first time I laid eyes on my son I knew I wanted his life to be better than he could ever imagine then we found out that life would be challenged by autism. I thought to myself “bring it on”. My background prepared me for this. As a former child support enforcement officer for the Attorney General of Texas, I fought for the rights of children and made it my mission to make sure they were equipped with everything they needed to make life as fulfilling as it should be. For my own child, I would do all that and then some.
I began to work on the vision I had for a long time of creating a non-profit organization that meets the unique needs of people with autism spectrum disorder. To provide a place of support and comfort for families on this unpredictable journey is what I strive to achieve. When I’m not focused on the AOTS mission, I enjoy family time with my teenage son and two dogs.
Awesome on the Spectrum is in honor of my son, the most amazing, incredibly authentic person I know. He has opened my eyes to a world I never imagined and I so enjoy the view!
Philippians 2:4 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
God Bless You.
I am a native of Youngstown, Ohio. I’m a former Navy wife and a mother of two children ages 17 and 19. As a military family we have traveled all over the U.S. from Florida to South Carolina to Washington state to Delaware.
I’ve been working in the nonprofit sector since 2008. My current position is in the human resources department as an HR Generalist.
I am a lifetime supporter/cheerleader of my kids. I am thankful for God, my husband, my parents, church family, friends, teachers, and my community for their continued guidance and support. I truly believe it takes a village to raise a child and I was honored to be asked to join the board of Awesome on the Spectrum. I’m glad I am able to use my talents to continue to help children grow and reach their full potential in every way. Our children are our future. We owe it to them to give them the best of each of us.
How will you help?
I am the grandmother of a young man with autism. I am learning more each day about what it means to have autism spectrum disorder and how family members can support their loved ones with autism.
It is my hope that my own grandson and your family members have the same opportunities as everyone else to live their very best lives.
I am happy to serve as treasurer of Awesome on the Spectrum as I have over 30 years of upper management and financial experience.
I enjoy meeting and lending support to the children and families of AOTS and relish my role as resident “grandmother” to all of them.
Professional Advisory Board Member
It is a pleasure to partner with Awesome on the Spectrum as an advisor to the board.
I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in May of 2011. In March of 2012, I started working with Epic Health Services as a Client Services Coordinator. In January of 2015, I helped start our Autism Services program, and I’ve been with the program ever since. We brought the program to Fort Worth in the latter half of 2015, and we’ve been in the DFW area ever since. We recently rebranded as Epic Developmental Services, but our mission has stayed the same: to provide excellent in-home and clinic-based Applied Behavior Analysis services.
When I’m not working, I enjoy playing piano and soccer, visiting with friends and family, and spending time with my dog.
